Fast and furious five John Smith’s People’s Darts hits the National Press

Frankly, too excited for subtle titles and keeping you in suspense, yes, Steam Lokomotiv pull off a 5-2 victory last night.

An early kick off meant a somewhat rushed effort to get to the pitch on time, or alive thought goalkeeper Chris Golding as he narrowly missed busse’s whilst trying to keep up with his with team mate Graham Granger showing him the way above ground to the pitch with the advantage that his two wheels had an engine.

Never the less, Steam looked ready for action once pitch-side (except keeper who was struggling to recover having done more exercise getting to the pitch than he ever does on the pitch). Off to a good start with a quick goal by Graham Granger. This was the start we had been hoping for, with confidence growing there seemed to be no limits to what Steam Lokomotiv could do. Unfortunately that thought was short lived as the opposition equalized.

Steam were lucky to secure a last minute signing in the form of Neil Ladd, Pub Landlord extraordinaire, fresh from 4 years in the boozer and slammed home two quick goals making the most of our extra man. Having a substitute meant it was indeed full steam ahead for each player. The two goals scored by Skipper, Nick Warry and Tim Beer demonstrated skill and technique way beyond the Wednesday Waterloo Conference League.

This 3-1 lead was new territory for Steam. The start of the second half was vital, Steam needed to apply the pressure, keep possession and dominate the game. They did. A second goal from Nick Warry took Steam 4-1 up. Shortly after, somehow, a moments slip of focus and it was 4-2. Steam a little complacent perhaps.

More time passed and pressure was applied on the opposition. Being critical, perhaps Steam could have capitalized on a few more opportunities. When a 5th goal was converted by Mark Woods with only a few minutes to go surely Steam were too far ahead to lose. But being sporting, goalkeeper Chris Golding decided to give away a penalty to spice things up a bit having suffered from a somewhat quiet and neglected game, compared to what he is used too. Shot saved! Wasn’t expecting that!

Final whistle blown and score 5-2 to Steam.

5-2; Five – Two; Five – 2; 5 – Two; five – too; five – to

Doesn’t matter how you say it, STEAM WINS 5 – 2.

Post match consideration: It is believed that actually it may have been 6-2 with skip Nick Warry claiming a hat-rick. However, the shock of winning a game has clouded our memories and we can’t actually remember.
